FAQ's

Are Lab-Created Diamonds Genuine?

Absolutely. Lab-grown diamonds are indistinguishable from natural diamonds in both chemical composition and physical properties. Recently, the Federal Trade Commission redefined the term "diamond" to include lab-grown ones, and the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) grades them using the same criteria.

Do Lab-Made Diamonds Hold Value?

Yes, they do. Lab-created diamonds are valued using the traditional 4Cs of diamond quality, just like mined diamonds. Interestingly, lab-grown diamonds can be up to 60% more affordable than their mined counterparts, despite being of the same high quality.

How Can You Distinguish Lab-Created Diamonds?

It's quite challenging. Even expert gemologists and experienced diamond traders struggle to differentiate lab-grown diamonds from mined ones with the naked eye. Specialized magnification equipment that examines atomic structures is needed to identify any discrepancies. However, absolute accuracy is never guaranteed.

Are Lab-Grown Diamonds GIA Certified?

Yes, they are. Lab-grown diamonds undergo grading for cut, clarity, color, and carat weight, just like mined diamonds. Leading institutions such as the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) and the International Gemological Institute (IGI) issue certificates for lab-grown diamonds.

What Sets Lab-Created Diamonds Apart from Cubic Zirconia?

A significant distinction exists between the two. Lab-created diamonds are authentic diamonds, while cubic zirconia is not. Cubic zirconia is softer, visibly different to the naked eye, and lacks carbon, disqualifying it from being classified as a true diamond. In essence, it's a diamond wannabe.
